Classic Vehicle Show - Celebrating TEN successful years!
Sunday 18th September from 10am to 5pm
Rural Life Centre
This year marks the tenth anniversary of a very successful classic vehicle show coming to Surrey
The Surrey Classic Vehicle Club was formed in November 1996 from a group of county based classic enthusiasts. Initially they just attended other events but then one of the members, Dennis Wilson, organised a 62 mile run through the Surrey byways from Tolworth Tower ending up at the Rural Life Centre in Tilford.
Following the success of that rally, the committee asked Dennis to arrange an annual gathering for the club. As the members had thoroughly enjoyed the destination of the run, Mr Wilson felt what better a location could there be than the country life museum.
The SCVC Classic Vehicle Gathering has now been held at the museum every year for ten years and each successive year has seen the number of exhibits grow, both in quantity and variety. Last year more than 500 vehicles took part, but don't just think about cars as everything from bicycles to buses are welcome to join in.
This year entries are already booked from as far afield as Southampton, Portsmouth, Bedfordshire and Erith in Kent. It is hoped that at least one Stanley steam car will also be included among them. But the stars are not just the vehicles because, besides all the museum's regular displays and the resident Old Kiln Light Railway, there will be demonstrations of crafts, birds of prey and a large autojumble section among the other attractions.
Why not go along and join in the tenth anniversary celebrations for the SCVC Classic Vehicle Gathering on Sunday 18th September from 10am to 5pm at the Rural Life Centre. The accredited museum lies mid way between Tilford and Frensham in Reeds Road off the A287 three miles south of Farnham. Time of Plenty??
Harvest Home - Sunday 2nd October from 10am to 5pm
With news of rising food prices, celebrating a bountiful growing season may not seem top of everyone's agenda as autumn approaches. Nevertheless nature's harvest will be celebrated widely in the countryside and, while the weather has been very mixed, certainly the fruit trees have produced in abundance abundance this year.
Apples will feature large in Harvest Home, the annual celebration held at Tilford's museum of country life, the Rural Life Centre, on Sunday 2nd October. But making cider won't be the only craft on show. Corn dollies, too, were a traditional way of keeping the spirit from the last sheaf of corn ready for the next growing season and there will be demonstrations of both dolly and stook making. The latter being the ancient way the harvested grain was kept dry until it went to the rick yard.
Joining in will be the Farnham division of the Surrey Beekeepers Association telling visitors how these little miracles of nature produce their sweet crop from seemingly mundane plants and flowers. The museum's chapel will also be 'abuzz' with the sound of a traditional harvest festival service at 3pm.
Following this the congregation will be invited to listen to John Negus, a locally based gardening expert, talk about 'Flair in the Garden'. Meanwhile the children will be able to take part in a trail around the museum to find where items of harvest produce have been hidden.
Harvest Home takes place on Sunday 2nd October from 10am to 5pm at the Rural Life Centre, an accredited museum of village life, midway between Tilford and Frensham in Reeds Road off the A287, three miles south of Farnham. For further information telephone 01252 795571.
